Dolls 2 - Photography Contest [27 entries]

Wanna play...? Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
71.9%
Contest goal:

Everyone had one as a kid, whether it was a barbie doll, a G.I. Joe, or some sort of super hero. Well, either borrow from your kids or someone one else, or dig deep into your attic to take a unique picture of a doll or action figure. Anything goes, as long as it is a doll or action figure.

Status: finished. Check out the winners below!

friiskiwi: are soft toys, like teddy bears etc off theme? ( 5 years and 2822 days ago )
Wayne Cheah: The subject is "dolls" I may be wrong, but my understanding is that dolls are females? So I suppose a female teddy bear should be on theme? ( 5 years and 2822 days ago )
itgik: When thinking of dolls and action figures I think of the following definitions

Doll - A small model of a human figure, often one of a baby or girl, used as a child's toy.

Action Figure - An action figure is a posable character figurine, made of plastic or other materials, and often based upon characters from a movie

kyricom: Dolls don't need to be female, although most are. "Ken" is a doll. ( 5 years and 2820 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Itgik's summation is correct except that the doll may be male or female. ( 5 years and 2819 days ago )
jerostone: One little question, so that I could die a wiser man; is Darth Wader from the Star Wars saga an action hero? Also would someone of you, kind people, point out for me the difference between a statuette or figurine, and a doll? ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
friiskiwi: I'm no expert but IMO a statuette is on some kind of stand as is a figurine. A doll or action figure has moving legs and arms. ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
jerostone: Thanks, friiski ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
Robert Pool: have they taken Darth Vader off and if so why? ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
kyricom: Probably because it wasn't a doll, Robert, but a statue(ette). Dolls will have limbs that move and articulate, and won't be attached to a base. (IMO) But that's just a guess on my part, I'm not a mod. ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
Robert Pool: I had my entry disqualified because the Moderator claimed ‘The image is not of a doll or action figure, but is a statuette.’ It was an action figure of the Elder Predator from the Movie ‘AVP2’. This action figure has 21 points of articulation and accessories that can be removed. My question is; why is it not an action figure if it can move its head, arms, waist, legs, feet and hands. I did ask to have it reinstated but so far … nothing! ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
kyricom: Beats me... if all that is true, it sounds like an action figure, but I didn't see it and I'm not a mod ( 5 years and 2818 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Robert Pool, mods need to discuss with other mods whether an entry should be reinstated or not so as to be fair to everyone. This sometimes may take a day or so due to mods being in different time zones. Unfortunately you have now broken the anonymity rule by explaining which entry was yours, so the entry can't be reinstated whether it was eligible or not. ( 5 years and 2816 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The doll may be a fixed doll but action figures have to be toys with moving parts. ( 5 years and 2816 days ago )
jerostone: Fair enough, but these things should be stressed and pointed out in the guidelines. It makes good sense that most of us have no way of offhandedly know or even remember the differences between dolls and statuettes, mannequins and figurines ( 5 years and 2816 days ago )
jerostone: Correction: of offhandedly knowing or remembering. I regret the gross error ( 5 years and 2816 days ago )
friiskiwi: Contests are suggested by the members, and mostly announced without the mods having seen them. Suggestions that at first look seem straight forward, are often found to be anything but..
It's amazing how many interpretations can be put on any one contest.

jerostone: It has to be understood that the moderators do more than their fair share in helping with the smooth running of the site, and this selflessly, and out of the goodness of their heart . Maybe a few minor changes here and there would help make things a little better, but this of-course is up to the people owning pxleyes. ( 5 years and 2815 days ago )

I choose this angle intentionally to give "tension" to my frame.
All so the diagonal lines on the floor lead the eye of the viewer to the main subject of the composition.
Generally speaking diagonal lines/frames/angles give an unstable/uncomfortable perspective to the photo IMHO.
