I absolutely love the way you put the shoes together. I like the way you tried to be creative also. For me though, shoes like this say "fashion" and the surroundings don't really show "fashion". If you had a sign out there with a big X on it or something, the photo might make a statement. The lighting, rule of thirds, color, focus and crispness is great!
I think the author is trying, precisely, to create a statement of "conflict of dis-similarities", in putting a pair of fashionable shoes in an unlikely setting, hence heightening it's visual and emotional impact, like shooting a well-manicured pair of hands doing iron-mongery or something rough and dirty like that.
Wonderful, and I'm talking about the picture, 'cause the shoes themselves to me look more like cheese graders, hehe!

haha! I know what you mean! I had to actually get with my neighbor on obtaining some shoes since I don't have anything cool cause I HATE SHOES but i was able to get at least one shot out of it

I find the photo very original, and where will the owner who was raised in a hurry shoes? a thriller?
I like that the 2 textures combine sort of. Maybe a person would have wanted to cross the river without getting her shoes ruined?
I like the juxtaposition of the fancy shoes out away from civilization
