kyricom: Ready for 8 million shots of the American flag? ( 5 years and 2739 days ago )
friiskiwi: I did consider adding NO flags, but decided against it. However, boring photos of flags will get a very low vote from me. ( 5 years and 2739 days ago )
meatman: Speaking as a Vietnam vet, I don't consider ANY photo of a USA flag "boring". And there are many more of us that share that opinion. Very poor choice of words, IMO. ( 5 years and 2738 days ago )
meatman: The example is off theme, due to the flesh color. Flesh color is not white. ( 5 years and 2738 days ago )
Wayne Cheah: In the context and spirit of this photo competition, I don't think the word "boring" here carries any derogatory meaning or implication. We are all naturally proud of our country's flag. To be fair, friiskiwi did not specifically single out USA flag. She said, "I did consider adding NO flags, but decided against it. However, boring photos of flags......." So no country (or organization or sports team) was mentioned. Actually there are other "boring" national flags around the world with dominant red, blue and perhaps white, such as France and Malaysia, the latter had actually sometimes been mistaken for the USA flag and the former I believe was the inspiration for the USA flag itself given the close historical ties imperial France had with the then British colonies on the Western Atlantic continent. I do however take your point on a better choice of word. ( 5 years and 2738 days ago )
meatman: I am not gonna philosophize with ya. I am not into debating or intellectual nit picking. My comment is what it is. And it stands. Case closed. Everyone in the good ole USA have a nice Memorial Day, and remember what the day is about. Its not about hot dogs and cold beer. Its about the men and women who gave it all for our flag. ( 5 years and 2738 days ago )
kyricom: I don't think anyone was talking about boring flags (and the French revolution started right AFTER the American revolution wrapped up). friiskiwi was just talking about boring SHOTS of a flag. If you take a snapshot of a flag (any flag) just hanging on a wall, it's probably going to be a boring shot. That is not a comment on the flag itself, the country it represents, or that country's people. But this is a photo contest site. Boring shots would not (and should not) do as well as imaginative shots. Personally, I am not going to vote highly on a shot just because it happens to have my country's flag in it. ( 5 years and 2737 days ago )
friiskiwi: Kyricom, I'll let you have the last word in this discussion, (I hope), well said. ( 5 years and 2736 days ago )
meatman: read my comment again. let me re-emphasize: Being a veteran, I do not believe that ANY SHOT of a USA flag is boring. The photo isn't "boring" or the flag isn't "boring". I do not care if it is just hanging on a wall or whatever. It is still not boring. I have personally seen what costs some have paid for the flag. This may well be where I differ with ya'all. When I see a flag, I do not concern myself with "rule of thirds, saturation, contrast, hue, blah, blah and more blah. I see it as what it is. A symbol of freedom. A freedom that cost plenty of precious lives. Lets hope this ends this discussion. ( 5 years and 2736 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Okay..... we all have our opinions..... and obviously have expressed them. Can we end this now? ( 5 years and 2735 days ago )
meatman: sounds like a plan. count me in. ( 5 years and 2735 days ago )
