One of the first rules many photographers are taught is to 'shoot with the sun behind you' to ensure a well lit subject. However rules are meant to be broken and this is no exception- shooting a portrait subject (and other subjects too) with some nice back lighting can create some beautiful effects.
So the challenge is to shoot a portrait with back lighting (light coming from behind your subject). This doesn't mean that the only light in your shot needs to be from behind. You need to balance it with other light (natural, reflected or artificial).
As a portrait, some of the features of the subject need to be recognizable, they do not need to be lighted as brightly as the back, but some sort of 'fill-light' is needed. NO SILHOUETTES!

"Contest Moderator: People, be advised...a portrait is defined as: "A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person"...therefor, all landscape and plant shots will most certainly be off-topic. And, for this contest, we will stick to people, no animal shots...please"

No problem Author...my pleasure, I have very much enjoyed watching your portrait photography grow over the past year...you have a definite gift and your subject choices and lighting are a pleasure to see. This is the very point of this site...I so very much (after 3 years here myself) like seeing the growth of photographers in their field.
