A feather is of course not a bird, but I still feel this one is against the spirit of the contest.

lovely texture and colour... a disembodied feather amoung pine-needles, twigs and seeds... coniferous forest floor detritis in close-up!

My front yard is covered in these - YAY - Nice shot

I don't think I would call this a close-up. I can see you are close to the bottom of the photo, but if I allow this one any landscape with a foreground should also qualify.
