If i where you i would compose this a little bit different...
I would roll & place a piece of paper inside the bottle(you don't have to write something on it) & i would burn the edges just a bit & fold it (to give an old texture to it).
I would search for a sandy sea shore with a beautiful sunset on the background, dig a small hole on the sand & place the bottle in it (so it looks like the sea washed it on the shore).
Using swallow DOF (1.8-2.8) & rule of thirds i would bring the viewers eye directly to the bottle leaving the sand & sunset blur (the water & the sun would create a beautiful bokeh on the background).
Your b/g right now is very busy with objects that have nothing to add to your photo & the bottle is dead center.
This is just me off course & my opinion only!
Sorry if i sound hard.
This was, however, where the bottle was when I photographed it. Your scenario would be a staged effect and a different mood. The title is not meant to be so literal. The message in the bottle here is not what is expected, the meaning is more abstract. The observer gets to fill in their own message for the symbolism. The setting provokes thought as to what is going on there, and to me, it is a natural still life. The bottle is not dead center, but tending towards the rule of thirds. In this case, the setting is an important factor and I was going for sharp, not bokeh. It made you think and that was it's purpose.
But,of course, that is my opinion only.
PS: I would have taken the other shot if I saw it,too, I think. I know that you are a master of studio and staged scenes and I appreciate your thoughts.
Howdie stranger!
