A great try, you have got the reflection in focus, but I really feel you need the ring in focus too.
Have an other try, make sure you use a tripod and stop the lens down as far as possible.

IMHO, I still think a well-focused picture speaks a 1000 words.

IMHO, it is not difficult to take a photo out of focus. I think that I would kill the experiment.
