Selective desaturation is an effective technique to help emphasis part of the image, to make the subject or its surroundings stand out. In this contest you are to take an image, desaturate part of it, and leave part of it in colour.
You may use selective editing for this, but you should work to make it seamless.
outstanding !! It musta took a long time to erase the greyscale layer off with a teeny tiny brush, egh ? If that's how ya did it. High score and GL.

Thank you.
Yes it did. I had to use my Pxleyes and the very smallest eraser tool to get those tiny twigs. But when the temperature is almost zero degrees outside, you have a lot of time on your hands. That, and a stubborn headed determination can accomplish almost anything!
Congratulations on 1st place, what a shame there won't be many more of them.
Keep photographing.

Thank you. Kind of a bitter/sweet win, knowing my "first first is a last first" here at Pxleyes. And friiskiwi I really thought your "Vintage" was going to be the winner. It's such a great photo, especially for this theme. And thank you for your nice comments on my other contest entries.
Really good. I can imagine the old guy in his B&W world saying,
"What's happened to my car?!"
author says:
LOL, actually it's not his cars, and he is thinking, 'I remember those, and remembering good times had in cars like that.'
Car belongs to the younger man, who inherited it from his dad.

You are both right, When converting an image to black and white, there is more to it than just removing all the colours, default settings for conversion are seldom the best.
The selection and separation from the background is very well done.

Well, I must say, you done quite well indeed. I woulda lost patience after one twig and woulda uprooted the whole tree.
Wow! Two positive comments from Meatman in one day. Sometimes stubborness can payoff.
