You have everything right about this self portrait. First of all it has tremendous visual impact and that is stemming from the technical elements which are well handled from the sharpness, to light source, to tonal ranges are all there. You also have post processed this perfectly leaving a smoky feel and that marries well with your title. Your POV is what really makes this strong, by pointing your camera up the looking "up to you" for the viewer gives this image a noble feel compound that with your eyes gazing beyond is pure magic. The grunge on your face speaks of your job as does the helmet. This is a very powerful photograph and you are lucky to have been born with great genes. Top marks to you.

Appreciate the kind and considerate commentary. It's really an homage to all of the brave firefighters out there that give their lives daily.
I love this contest where we can meet 'face to face'....well sort of. Your self portrait speaks volumes about your love of photography, you can't hide behind that camera, we know you are one serious dude. I love the creative element you have incorporated, the reflection, sharp as a pin, the frame . The distraction is that pink hair (it's the roof tiles) behind you and in any other contest you could have cloned them out or even darkened them somewhat for they squeak out at us "hi there, look at me , look at me". Yet your image is so strong technically, well composed, framed and a pleasure to meet you.
Nice to see you in something other than a small icon! I love the effect of the blinds and know how difficult it is to make sure that eyes are not in the shadows.
author says:
Thank you., Shouldn't admit it, but that was probably more good luck than skill.
Now that is a book I could use! I really like the shadow light play and your eyes are sharp. The diagonal of the blinds playing on the canvas truly makes for a remarkable photograph. Excellent.
author says:
Thank you Olga, It is nice when you have an idea and it works out. It's a great book, and I should study it more.

Believe it or not, this big Galoob is only four months old. (check out high res, AND the SBS for what happened in the next few seconds). (5 years and 906 days ago)
What breed is the big Galoob? How big will he/she grow? Love those eyes and the big kiss.
author says:
She's half Labrador Retriever and half Anatolian Shepherd. Anatolian Shepherds get to be about 120 lbs (54 kg). We're hoping the Lab half tones that down a little.
I think I fell in love with those innocent eyes, those paws and that little mark on her nose haha, beautiful image of you two together My pups pointing at me to vote for this one higher haha
author says:
Always listen to your pups! Yeah, she's a sweetie (did you check out the next picture in the SBS?)
powerfull portrait and with good clarity
Thanks so much!
