Commonly referred to as Pupu Springs - are New Zealand’s largest freshwater springs and the largest coldwater springs in the southern hemisphere. The springs contain some of the clearest water ever measured and reveal an extraordinary view of the colours and workings of the underwater world. The area is a taonga or treasure to Maori and is held in high cultural and spiritual regard both locally and nationally.
The horizontal visibility of the water in the springs has been measured at an average of 63 metres, a world record for fresh water. (5 years and 3566 days ago)
