A kitten, dead.
Upon the road.
Nine lives spent.
As I could see.
Never had a chance to grow.
up to the cat it should be.
A carcass that's grown old and cold.
And a spirit waiting to be freed.
Poem written by myself. I hope that's ok. The rules don't say I can't write my own poem.

I know there's a place for 'edgy' art, I'm just not sure a pic of a dead cat is what I'd like to see on a family friendly art site.
:`( awe
well I'm not agreed with Ray. Coz
(1) I do love animals and it hurt to see any one dead but There is no rule mentioned anywhere either in this site or in this competition by the moderators beforehand that dead things can not be posted here,
(2) The poetry and arts are not like a sheep that come with your own wish or stick they are like a free deer who just comes to you with its own time and condition,
so as author said its her own poem that might be result of the sorrow at the poor dead kitten/cat.so its all natural outcome.let remain this site for natural artists/poet.Rest is on Moderators
I would agree with Ray only if it was grotesque. The cat is dead, but you can't see it's innards, nothing disgusting is going on. At first I thought the cat was just asleep, then I looked closer and saw it was dead. We have contests where the theme is horror. If we can have contest that promote the edgy scary, why can't this artist promote his edgy sad? I think this photo for what it could be it quite family friendly. Kids see dead cats and squirrels on the side of the road in worse condition that this kitten all the time.
well said drskn08
I'm pretty sure the mods are not going to remove this picture just because it is a family friendly site, because I remember a photo of a dead woman floating in the water here once.
Thank you Agthakurtas...
@ k5683..and @Dem90.. i dont think mod will remove it.. as Dem90 said..kids at home do see dead cats/squirrels.. and more over you have used your own poem along with the photograph...its much impressive. in fact i think it would be better if authors post here their own poems to show their creativity.. though it may narrow the criteria and entries may be less.. lol
any ways i like this pic with poem.. good job author !
I don't believe the image is in any danger of being removed on the premise of it's a dead kitten. The Mods are not here to censor art, rather the contrary, we are here to merely enforce the rules of the site (of which this image violates none that I'm aware of) and to keep the contests fair and consistent. We would rather help, teach and mentor members than go around haphazardly removing entries. I believe the Author here took an image that moved them and wrote about it...perfectly within the spirit of the contest. The image, whilst disturbing to some, is neither vulgar nor horrific IMHO.
well said itsmymoment It just looks like it is sleeping anyway :O
I don't want my comment to be misunderstood. I don't have an issue with the pic myself. I just thought it was borderline. Best of luck author.
Its ok Ray... you just expressed your view.. The comment-section is for the same purpose and i think, comments whether in the form of complements or a criticism, both should be welcomed (untill its hurting and personal).. The good thing is making efforts to comment and you did..
I agree with what's been said about the photo. It's not too explicit. But, also consider the poem. There's nothing in the theme that says you can't write you're own. I think that's great, more people should. I like your poem very much. However, I would urge you to consider capitilization and punctuation as they impact flow and pace. You might have meant to have it like this (I don't know how experienced you are in poetry), but if not, you might consider:
A kitten, dead
upon the road.
Nine lives spent,
as I could see,
never had a chance to grow
up to the cat it should be.
A carcass that's grown old and cold,
and a spirit waiting to be freed.
Bravo!
Howdie stranger!
