Porta Pia is a gate in the Aurelian Walls of Rome, Italy.
It was through an artillery-opened breach in the wall a dozen metres to the west of the gate - known as the "Porta Pia breach" - that on September 20, 1870 Bersaglieri soldiers entered Rome and completed the unification of Italy. (5 years and 3068 days ago)
You lucky thing, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to historic sites.
You're right, Rome is full of history
Colosseum, Roman Forum, Appia Antica, etc. are well known, I chose Porta Pia to show something less popular.
Rome IS history! I'm jealous
Howdie stranger!
