I didn't know that idiom but it is good to know it now because I can apply it to a few friends of mine. You have really nice sharpness on the horse and his teeth and we can hear him laughing. The crop is apprpopriate and your dof is perfect.

I haven't heard of the idiom either. The photo is great - lots of character in the horse and its beautifully sharp. Black and white works really well here.
