Actually, I'm not sure it is a real ruby. The ring itself is gold, but the stone is very badly set, as you can see. It looks old but the stone is still smooth, no scratch on it. It is true that my grandpa found it on the beach many many many years ago.
That's still pretty cool that your grandpa found it. Pop into a jeweler's sometime. They could probably tell you in a flash if it's real or not.
