Since there is great texture in the wall and colour in the shoe, I think that I would have cropped out the distracting window and just left the shoe on the wall.

Great scenery and compo ! The use of light is top ! I particularly like the way it creates some kind of grey clouds under the Eiffel tower... like it was in a bubble floatting above thos clouds.
Thanks, that was exactly the effect. You got it spot on. The "bubble" appears to be floating towards the light as well. It's a wonder how the surface tension of the water's edge at the bottom could form a kind of barrier for the light and "create" those "clouds"
