Fire agate is only found in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. The rock on the bottom is what it looks like originally. It has to be cut by hand as the color is only a few microns thick (which is why you rarely see them in jewelry stores, and when you do they're fairly expensive). It is similar to Australian opal in that it formed with water and has chatoyancy (shimmering colors).
Please view in high res to see the stone's color better, if you have time. (5 years and 3280 days ago)
Nice shot.Maybe a dark background would havegiven more impact to the delicate colours.
Nice presentation. As an old rock-hound, I like your display with the rough agate. Not to mention your fine description.
cool shot author...bottom rock looks like a rotten meat..lol...best of luck

Each piece of "fringe" was seperately stuck through the chain and soldered. The stone is a piece of Montana Agate from the Yellowstone River in Montana. (5 years and 3632 days ago)

Mmmmmm like the warm feel and the thoughtful presentation. This is a photo made, not a photo shot.
Thanks
