This is amazing, when I first saw it I thought it was a chocolate bar, put on top of a fancy pattern.
Wow -- if I had not looked at the high res I,m not sure this could have been a photo
WAY cool. Alan is right. You need to look at it in high res. I thought it was paint chip samples spread out.
Really a great shot.
a mongolfiera? fine
I've seen numerous hot air ballon images but none as creative as this. I hope you weren't hit by a released sand bag. Wonderful capture.

lovely, just wish the stake wasn't there, but I guess you do too.
Nice... too bad about that pole on the right
Nice picture but it is a pity that the streetlight is on the picture...
Nice shot, IMHO it would be better without the pole, the pole breaks the harmony of the composition. Good luck!
nice. It's a shame about the bar on the right

wow! great capture!
Thanks
was that a water balloon ? wish ya had a high res of it.
Yes it was and I'll upload it later
great photo and high score !! how fast was shutter speed ?
Thanks and I used 1/2500
Meatman...it's not shutterspeed that 'freezes' the action, it's the flash....
Actually I didn't use a flash I don't own one I used a shutter speed of 1/2500
Really author? no flash? and only a 1/2500th shutter-speed?!? what was your f/stop and light source...I'm VERY curious, perhaps what cam did you use too....I've been shooting for a couple of months and I can't see how this very High-speed shot was accomplished, would LOVE to see the original or Hi-Rez...
To have your shutter-speed that high w/o a flash, your light source must have been VERY intense and to keep the BG black without spill-over is a very neat trick...
Hi-res is up I was using f/5.6 with an ISO of 800 on a canon 50D I was using a black bed sheet about a foot away from the balloon. The only light source was the sun, which at mid afternoon was directly lighting the balloon. I did increase the amount of black in camera raw because some of the background had a very small colour cast
It also took a good few attempts to catch the balloon perfectly
I have a 50D also that I use as a back-up, been shooting it for 3 years, nice camera. Mine has close to 175,000 actuation's on it now and still works.
Yeah I love it and that's good to know because mine only has 20,000 because I've only recently got it.
kool !! how did ya hold the pin and synchronize the shot with the balloon rupture ??
Well firstly there was a person holding the pin but I edited that out to give the image a better effect. And as for synchronisation, I was just taking the picture at what I thought was the right moment, sometimes I missed, but sometimes I didn't
What do you mean you edited out the person?
Well, when I say person I mean that there was little bit of finger in the bottom of the image after throwing the needle. and I used the healing brush to erase it as I didn't want to crop anything off of the bottom of the image.
OOPS, author !! Ya just left the cat out of the bag.
No, I just didn't word it correctly, silly me. There was only a little bit of finger at the bottom which I healed out instead of cropping because I thought that the composition looked good from camera.
they say ya can only use the heal brush to remove dust and scratches from a scan or speckles from dust on your camera's sensor. i don't know about finger tips ! LOL !!!! maybe an sbs showing the original, and then a finished entry with just cropping used perhaps ??
Done it looks slightly different because of the tighter crop and the fact that I had to re-process it to make the sbs, but I made it as close as possible
i believe that does the trick. great job and good luck.
Thanks you too... if you've entered :p
Congrats for making it to the next round!
Thanks!
