Sorry Friiskiwi but they are. About 60 years before they were at hundreds of meters in the sea, after a storm, the were washed up in the the sand.
Look here :http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/47150000/jpg/_47150564_mulberryharbour.jpg it was used to join an artificial harbour and the sand and helped the vehicles to land.
