This carving process has been practiced in China for centuries. Multi layers of Cinnabar Lacquer are applied to a metal item which can take up to 1/2 a year to dry. Only after it's dry can the ornate carving can begin. (5 years and 2723 days ago)
beautiful, compliments to the carver and the photographer.
Thanks.
hehehe, we used to carry the Burnt Cinnabar, where the carving down would reveal a black surface beneath the red.. totally freaky and AWESOME beauty. It's wonderful to see it again.. (when the economy started to fail we put it on sale, and one person came in and bought the whole collection.. sigh, I miss it ) Great capture
The vase is pretty simple compared to your description. Sorry they're gone.
