This is a journal entry I wrote on 9/10/2001, The before day NYC was attacked. I am from NYC so to have found this in a shoebox in my attic was a blessing. I will never let go of this, which is so close and dear to my heart. I hope you guys see how amazing this is as much as I do. 10 years this September, God bless the USA! (5 years and 3213 days ago)
Is this scanned? I mean, did you use a camera to photograph it?
yes jaws, i placed a white table cloth down on the table, and put an old window glass on top to flatten the paper out then took a picture of it. thanks for asking, otherwise no one would have known!
i dont know if it is allowed but i used this to help me before i took the picture..let me know if i wasnt allowed to look upon this for guidance.. i mean it was just teaching me a technique..

Of course it is allowed, and I'm sure that I learned a thing or 2 from it, thank you.
I can understand the the note is important to you, and it's an excellent shot for showing what is written on it. Good photograph to document it, but it isn't artistic, Jaws was wondering if it had been scanned/photocopied. I think you would have got a much more artistic shot, photographing it in the box, perhaps with some sunlight from a window. Do have a go at re-shooting.
thank you tons friiskiwi.. will definiteky do!
Yeah, I don't think a photocopy is allowed, I mean it's a photography contest. IF you didn't use your camera to shoot it, then it doesn't really qualify, don't you think? Try reshooting it with your camera and create more DOF, like friiskiwi suggested.
^ jawsh i shot it with a camera and used a technique how -to guide on how to photograph glass without reflection..did you read my comment correctly?
Jaws, the author was quite clear about the fact that he photographed it and how.
I like this, it's very special =)

sorry, but how is this a machine?
its an electrical device that modifies energy to performance of human tasks..
no, it's a light filament!............imo, this does not qualify as a machine.
well, I guess the definition for "machine" better be changed then because this is a "mechanical or electrical device that transmits or modifies energy to perform or assist in the performance of human tasks." just like the goal description provides. I think too many people here think a machine has to be something metal with gears and gadgets or something
k5683 : I am the same opinion as you
since when have human been producing light?
it is electrical right? It transmits/modifies energy right? It assists in the performance of human tasks right?
So, if a clocks parts are okay in this contest why not light parts? I mean, we just look at a clock or watch and really don't do anything with it right? It just helps us tell what time it is. Well, a light just helps us see.

I am sorry, but imo, that still not not make it a machine....not even a simple one.

Just because it's black and white doesn't mean we don't recognise the teddy, Suggest you change one of the photos, having 2 so similar photos, is likely to get them both removed.
Great shot, but is the bear actually doing something? The contest states that the bear must be shown doing something, "as long as it's not just the teddy bear just sitting there." If I were you I would reshoot and resubmit this one. Its a great photo and I'd hate for it to get removed. All the best!
Yes He is - he is sleeping
