@ itsmymoment, yes it is a mirror. I had one heck of a time getting them all arranged so that reflections wouldn't overlap.

this is a really cool shot. The only thing that kind of bugs me is that there are the large salt crystals, but the salt from the shaker is normal salt. Those rocks couldn't have fit through the holes of the shaker.

Actually kyricom I poured the salt into the shaker through the holes and the large ones were the ones that didn't fit, it was just a coincidence that there were 13

Try using no flash then, use two continuous lights angled from the sides and diffused, those little clamp lamps you get from the hardware store are a great way to experiment with different lighting techniques on a budget, and those white vinyl table cloths you get at the dollar store make excellent diffusion material!

Agree with locksmagic....The flash is of no use in such kind of images. You can try light sources like mentioned by locksmagic or else you can change the settings in the camera for the exposure....

author, i love the perspective of this photo..but the cigarettes i think should be more visible. imho.
