The kind of interaction to avoid (although this was, thankfully, just a re-enactment). (5 years and 371 days ago)

Clinge - Yes. Thank you. Luck and timing help a lot with these types of photographs.
Great, great, great photo!!! V+F!!! Beautiful capture! How were settings on your camera set, and what camera did you use?
GoodOguy - Thank you for your comments. On this image I used my canon 7D -set at ISO 400 - with a canon 100mm lens - aputure at 8.0 and s speed at 1/1600 sec. - I took a number of different images at different settings. I also wanted a little bit of blur in the fast moving wings to show motion but not in the eyes. It was a fun shoot. I am glad you like it.
Why did you set it to 400 ISO? You have noise. (I am asking because I am learning ) I can see it was very fun.
GoodOguy - Thanks for asking. No problem with asking and learning. Normally ISO 400 does not produce noise in my camera but I also had the shutter speed at 1/1600. In these contests I use images straight from the camera with a little cropping and a little exposure plus or minus. I can eliminate the noise by running the image in a de-noise app. I was trying for the best mix of speed, depth of field and blur to produce an image I liked that showed the fighting and stop most action. I can clean this image up in other programs that are outside the rules of this contest. I often shoot ISO up to 800 but with lower shutter speed and when I stay around F 8 there is little or no noise. On objects that do not move I do use the much lower ISOs,
Thank you for that info, I will try in future to shoot in that settings. Hope I get good captures like you!
Fantastic shot!!!
Thank you patty.

A Broad-Tailed Hummingbird tries to protect it's territory from the Rufous Hummingbird. The Rufous is well known for chasing other hummingbirds out of their "property". They soon take over the land for their own. (5 years and 2665 days ago)

Is the man on the ground supposed to be playing dead?
If we could give the actors some tips for improvement, I would suggest that he didn't hold his gun in the air while pretending to be dead.
Nice fire shot from the end of that rifle.
Yes not the best acting in the world, lol think it would have been better without the guy on the right as well
The guy on the right is part of the Union forces being fired at (by the Confederates). He (and his side) is much closer to the camera than the squad further away.
Fair enough still think it would be better without him, although if he was in focus, then the interaction would have been better and given this a better effect.
The DOF implies the distance. It would be more confusing if he were in the same focus as the guys firing further away.
I like everything about this staged photograph. The man in softness on the right gives us the feeling of them against us. It is a good thing you did not crop him out and the dead guy is fine with gun in hand , that is after all, how he fell!
