I took this shot of James Bartel at the Geelong Football Club, club rooms.
I used a speedlight flash and a bungi cord attached to my camera.

why the bungi?
We're not used to seeing footballers in this light, so I used the bungi low in the shot to produce a new effect and create a different atmosphere. I did a series of shots in the rooms with other players using the same technique.
I think it's a nice shot with a good effect. But... how good of a football player can he be? He still has all his teeth!

Football? I see a soccer ball.
in Dutch soccer is called voetbal which directly translates as football since you kick the ball with your foot. As much as I have seen from American football, thats how the more civilized form of rugby is called here, they dont really play the ball with there foot that often but they run around with it and throw it more often, which is not allowed in soccer. I think the name football is more apropiate imo but then the question raises wheter its a football ball or a football LOL
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, kyri, we're talking about the Real MacCoy, good, old-fashioned football, the way it was invented by our dear good friends the Brits. Now why you, Americans think that soccer, as you called it, is sissy stuff, good only for prep school kids, that's quite another story. Well, over this... thorny issue, you laugh at us, we laugh at you, and we all have a good and hearty laugh, which is all that matters in these hard and trying times we are going through, heheh!
I know. I was just teasing. I give my (American) football fan friends grief about it too. Soccer/football is really catching on here a lot more. No longer is it just for "prep school" kids. There are leagues for kids throughout the country, and most schools have teams. I played for several years in college, myself. Professionally, it's taking a bit longer, but as this generation gets older it will probably move along too.
Personally, I think American football is getting kind of boring. I used to be a big fan back in the 70s and 80s, when they were actually allowed to hit each other, but now there are so many new rules that dilute the action I've pretty much lost interest. They like to hang on to their "we're the toughest sport" mythology, but it just isn't true. There's lots of tougher sports. Run a 5 second play, take 45 seconds to set up the next one. Run a 5 second play, take 45 seconds to set up the next one. Have to have 2 minute breaks often enough for commercials, and if anyone even looks at the quarterback - blow the play over. I'm starting to find rugby MUCH more exciting - but I'll probably be branded a traitor and terrorist for saying so.
Why you bloodthirsty kyri, you liked it best back then, when players were allowed to kill each other, e? The bottom line is that, since the beginning of time there was always some kind of sport or the other that people would go nuts about- an important aspect of our lives by the looks of it, and yes, man, I know you were kidding.
