Hehe I love it
honestly the image would work just as good had you made a peace sign, i dunno whats with the obscenity
its a play on words...not intended to be ultra-offensive, just funny...besides, if it were a peace sign, what would you title it then? Peace? sorry...not as funny in my book...
OMG THIS IS SOOOOO FREAKIN FUNNY!!!! LOVE IT!!!
lol-- great
cant help it but my children watch these sites and i dont want to learn them that obscenity is funny or art.. just my point of view thats why I dont like it. I can see how its a funny play on words but that dont make it less obscene. And no the wordplay would not have worked with a peace sign but that wouldnt make the image less powerfull.. after all we are voting on the image not the wordplay... However its your image and you have to do what you like best Its a great picture though with the reflecting light n the dof.
Good Idea
Poor fork...
I won't debate the semantics of what is or is not offensive in art or elsewhere...to each their own...but, IF this is the most offensive thing to be found here or anywhere on the internet... well....'nuff said.
Thank You though for the kind comments on the actual merits of the image...much appreciated.
hmmm, not very innovative, please see the original idea here http://icarus-ica.deviantart.com/art/fork-off-35321414
Ummm...being I don't have a Deviant Art account, I can't see to which image you are referring to...I don't ever go there. But, do I think I am the FIRST person to take a shot like this? No... Did I copy a deviant Art photo I didn't know existed? No...
I'm certain if you dig hard enough on all of the entries in many of the contest here and elsewhere, you can find similar shots everywhere on the web where the authors either got their inspiration, ideas or were at the same location (in the case of landscapes or landmarks)....whatever dude...
And I can almost be certain, the author of the Deviant Art shot was probably not the originator of the idea either...seriously...I saw a fork on a plaque like this when I was a kid in the 70's, the idea has been around for a while I'm sure.
(and a personal note to all the 'haters'...ya'll can just Fork-Off!!! )
awesome, very funny and a great photo!
Very nice and funny image!!
Great picture and very funny !
I'm sure that there no need for children watching that picture to learn that kind of gestures ... There's a special place for that called ...the school !
Please, if you don't want to see that kind of things, stay at home, close your doors and windows, turn of the TV and computer and forget the internet ! Come on ! We are in 2012 !
my sympathies Eladine, mankind is hopeless
OH MY GOD!!! THE CHILDREN.. the CHILDREN!!! we must protect the Children.. they'll see this picture and be corrupted and become ghouls in the night.. they'll shave our cats.. and become Nimcompoops!!! They'll want to put sour cream on their bagels instead of Cream Cheese!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!!!
Oh yes Mrs. Gurgleheim, Billy would be a great student, but he saw a picture of a fork flipping the bird and now he's corrupt.. best just drop him off at the local prison and say good riddance.. you should have just staple gunned him to floor and brought food to him then let him see that photograph
give me a break...
Very cute photo author, good luck
@Drivenslush, OH MY GOD, thats, too much for an innocent and simple demand, let me ask you something and hope you will make the answer in a PM, what if your little daughter gave you her middle finger and said fork off dad, u gonna be happy with that? i know it's useless effort to stand against this since it's already a culture of billions of people and impossible to be changed, rules made because mankind is aggressor by nature and though still mankind is hopeless!
EDITED:
Forking love, imo, kids that know what this is, apart from a bent fork, will know a lot worse.....but thats just my thinking. in the end its just a photo, n next week we will all be talking about a new photo.
First of all @orentallad, if my little daughter gave me her middle finger, I'd put the finger on ice and rush her to the hospital and pray that the doctors could put it back on with no sensitivity loss, and then I would ask the doctors for a sedative to stop me from laughing after she said FORK YOU. (Snicker)
I would hope that I know my daughter well enough to understand what I had done to cause such a silly reaction.. If she got the idea from this Photograph, I'd give her a fork and a pair of pliers and tell her to make one so she could understand more about the idea and fill her with understanding (I'd want her to be president some day, and it's best to start them young)
But as you say, Mankind is Hopeless so then I'd probably just sell her to the Circus... giggle snort
Very forking funny, I suppose you have a whole set of these.
Regardless of what everybody think about that picture, I can see a lot of reactions ...And isn't it why ART is made for ? ... Generate reactions ?
Goal "Show me a COOL shot of something shiny that would distract me or someone like me (scary thought)." ... top marks for distracting not only the theme suggester but everyone else
Great shot
lol@ Nator, you made my day, @ Drivenslush thanks for the answer, no more comments.
Eladine- you have a problem with this based on your children yet on your own web site you have a section called "Erotic Poetry 18+". That alone should be more offensive then a bent fork.
Author- When you get a reaction like that you've done well. Good job!
I have fond memories of my family and I sitting around the dinner table and my father asking for my mother to pass a dish to which she'd respond by holding a fork upright and saying "Fork you, Greg" We were older and had been exposed to much more by that point so that little joke held very little if any influence in our life however it sticks out as a more memorable moment at a typical weekday dinner.
I enjoyed reading the comments on this image just as much as the image its self. Great take on the theme, IMO very creative and out of the box, even if it had been done before
@ TM...what a fond memory, thanks for sharing, it gave me a chuckle, glad you enjoyed...Cheers!
@ Drivenslush & @Artifacts, You know you can still get a ticket when you raise your middle finger to a cop? Its a very disrespectfull gesture where I come from and how I was raised.
@pat the erotic poetry section on my site is labeled 18+ that alone should say enough, it means not for children so everyone is warned.
@ Author good luck with your entry, Im sure it will do well the quality is very good and it seems most people like it
fork off image on DeviantArt is labeled 18+ filter too, i guess we will need a 18+ filter on PXLeyes too
I don't see anything offensive in this picture, it'is a wonderful and original shot. Good luck author!
I guess the most interesting thing about the entire situation here is, if you check the last self-portraits contest, there are no less than 12-15 semi-naked shots of many members and Mods (some rather suggestive) and there weren't nearly any cries of "OMG! This is offensive!"....so from what I gather from that, a simple piece of cutlery is more offensive than a full grown naked man? LOL....just shows how Forking Silly some things can be
@author I have only responded because I feelt the neccesity to defend myself when a member brought up my own blog, which is totally unrelated to this image or gesture. Nudity is not the same thing as an obscene disrespectful gesture. Dont mix two things with eachother. Also these Naked/semi naked shots I have not seen so I cant judge them, however with normal nudity or even artfull, I dont really have a problem much if a child sees it by any chance. I dont think there are many cries going "OMG". Please dont exagerate, It was just me and oriental who could see my point of view.
this photo is really controversial lol. great work author ! you made it to the point that many members actually express opinions on your photo .
Very funny! How did you manage to bend the fork?
@ marina...I bent the fork using an ancient combination of mind-power, blood sacrifice and a needle-nose pliers...but, mainly the needle nose pliers.
Really the photography seems to me to be brilliant, great author
There have been way more controversial entries on this site then this forking fork. I wont take the time to link numerous examples here.
Good job Author and good luck too you.
ummmmmm... nice shot?
Love it.. but F U to LOL j/j
Great photography work, it passes all the requirements for the contest. If people really stopped and looked at it, I always thought we lived in the human race that consisted of 4 fingers and a thumb not four fingers so really there should be no comparison to the human hand, unless you are a Simpsons character. lol
Great job author
Well deserved first place !
