You can sometimes find old graveyards hiking back in the hills around us. (5 years and 530 days ago)

That iron pole smack dab in my face is truly a distraction but the lighting is really wonderful and I am reminded to shoot cemeteries during the haunting hours of day!

author says:

Yes. The eye is automatically drawn to the pole. The dissonance created makes you want to look away from it, where the iron bars lead you to the tree swallowing the bars on the left, or down to the right which leads to the graves.

A War Memorial Cemetery. (5 years and 531 days ago)

avatar LifetimeDamage

I like this image, not the dead, but the image is strong,
But I think the image will be stronger if you cut off some sky.
Now it's 55% clouds 5% trees and 40% graveyard.

still26 says:

I would like to chime in and agree with Lifetime Damage's assessment. As a general rule photographs that are sliced in half are perceived by the brain as boring, so a crop down would work wonders to highlight the cemetery, which is the focus of this contest. I do think this a well taken shot and we get caught up in the repeat of patterns of the stones and we love patterns.

I find this quite moving and sad at the same time, and the rain effect just makes this more so.

author says:

So appreciate your comments, thank you....the good, the bad and the funny.

Agreed, the rain effect makes it poignant. If that's real rain.

author says:

It is real rain. Trust me, I'm photoshop illiterate. Thanks for commenting.

Ahhh, what a place to visit, thank you. You have over contrasted this and you can clearly see black "clipping" or "black outs" in the trees. (it's the opposite of blowouts) You could take your highlights/shadow lever and muck around a bit to see if you could bring out some detail. This was taken on a very bright day and your exposure was difficult. It is a nice photograph and would do well in a magazine

thanks olga for advice

I like this one for it has a feel of cold, blue...and death! Your contrast is strong, you do have some dust spots in the sky (the bane of all photographers). The photo is sharp, a considered composition is evident and overall a pleasant view, thank you. I wonder if a bit more exposure would brighten this and show the snow as white versus blue?

author says:

thanks olga, wanted this to look cold
