A long time ago, eating utensils were mainly made out of wood. The rich people would present a silver spoon to their Godchildren upon their Christening, which is where the saying "He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth" came from. MANY years ago, my family was quite wealthy (unfortunately, none of it made it down to me). These are the silver spoons, left to me by my grandmother, that were given when children were Christened in our family. The oldest one (the one at about 2:00) was from 1888. My grandmother's (at about 8:00 with "Lora" on it) was from 1912 (the dates are typically engraved on the backs). You can see the nice details in high res where you can magnify it. What a lovely collection, and what a shame you didn't give them a proper polish before photographing them.
Thanks. Actually, they were cleaned up. That's not tarnish or spots, it's age.
Apologies for doubting your housekeeping.
LOL... none necessary.
Howdie stranger!
