This little baby raccoon was in the water by our dock and it seemed to be having trouble getting out of the water. We noticed that he/she had a broken leg and was only having the use of the other three. We believe it was attacked by an alligator. He/she was able to get out and I was calling every number I could to get someone out here to help it. Fish and Wildlife said to call the city and the city got in contact with animal control. We couldn't touch it because we didn't know what kind of diseases he/she may have so we just fed it to keep it there. After he/she was done eating it stumbled down to the water again for a drink and then started off to an area of the bushes we couldn't follow him/her into because it's where the gators and snakes are. We waited there for an hour to see if it would come back out and for the the animal control but he/she never did. We left and went on about our day and about 2 hours later I was coming out of my friends house upstairs and saw that the raccoon was on the stairs climbing up to our door!!! Now mind you that we are three buildings from where he/she went in the brush by the water. Made it that far to find us! He/she was struggling so hard to get up there and I immediately called animal control again and the operator said they did come out earlier and looked for about 20 minutes but she will send someone again. They were very nice and had a quick response but told us that they will most likely put the little fella down. :( I explained that it was a very tame raccoon because everyone here feeds them and some you can even pet but he just needed someone to rehabilitate it and they just didn't have anyone to do that.
If he/she did get put down... atleast he/she's not in anymore pain.
I now know about people you can call other than the Animal Control that will help it.
This picture isn't in focus and I had a hard time getting the right shot cause he/she wouldn't stop moving but I still can't get rid of it. (5 years and 3276 days ago)
You might want to consider using a source of light other than your camera's flash. It would look better without the harsh shadow on the backdrop. There are some nice contours on this statue which would be well brought out by some lighting from the left of picture.
What an incredible story ... actually brought tears to my eyes and I am not kidding. I may be a bit of a sap but that is how it effected me!
I adopted a baby raccoon once who's mother had been killed by a dog. They are amazing little people ... I found a home in the country for her and the basically let her run loose. One Spring day she found a mate and disappeared for the Season. She did come back occasionally but never really stayed after that.
Anyway ... lovely story ... and bravo for the effort you made in the little ones behalf!
I should have know it was you!
aww this broke my heart! i am an animal lover! i would have worn gloves and a sleeved plastic poncho to pick it up and help it, but thats me! i tried helping a deer that got hit by the car in front of me, but luckily it pranced away once i helped it back on its feet..i hope this little guy is in a better place!
