The Castle of Mey in the far north of Scotland was in a semi-derelict state, when in 1952, it was purchased by the newly widowed Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. She successfully renovated and restored the castle, its gardens and 30 acre parklands. (5 years and 2907 days ago)
