nice catch with the ball and sand flying!
great shot, but golf is not a team sport
Sorry, Friiskiwi, I have to disagree. There is exceptions: The Ryder Cup is a biannual tournament that pits teams from Europe and the United States. This is one example of the game being a team sport.
obviously you are thinking pro level golf and as makkrb says even at the pro level they play team golf.
friiskiwi - golf IS a team sport in the high school and college levels. 5 players compete individually and then add their scores together. Lowest team score wins. This is a college athlete competing in a team tournament.
I can see where you are coming from, but in my opinion, a team sport is where players interact with each other and against the other team during the play, helping their team mates and try to stop the opposition.
That is ONE defenition of a TEAM sport... but as in golf, swimming, track, wrestling etc... it is a group of team members working together AND interacting with other individuals from other teams competing to build the best score for the team. It is NOT and does NOT have to be a CONTACT sport to be considered a TEAM sport.
I never really thought of team sport in that way but now that I think of it they take a 'swim team' to events don't they. There are certain sports that I have always considered individual events but even athletics can be considered part of a team wether it be school based or professional. Perhaps for future reference we should be more specific as to the definition of 'team' sport
