To me the main object isn't the tree but the mountains behind it
Thanks for the thought, but I see the tree as the main focus in an empty desert setting. I may be wrong, but I believe that in this contest it is the mood of the "one" tree rather than having a big tree filling the center of the shot just to show that it is a tree.

It is a tree. I looked it up.
I have no problem with the placement of the 'tree' but are you sure that is not a cactus?

Ocotillo, A cactus like tree. sounds fine to me.
