avatar kyricom
kyricom says:

Nice shot... but... how is this rebellion?

author says:

I believe that some people do not want to be a part of the society-This young lady was pregnant and homeless-which is very sad but we do all have a choice &we also have free will.
Maybe not in a place like Haiti after the earth quake-those folks did not choose. In this country we do have a choice, and there is help especially for pregnant single women.

avatar kyricom
kyricom says:

Huh? What? Are you kidding? You actually think homeless people CHOOSE to be homeless as a form of rebellion?

author says:

This woman, YES- There is plenty of help available for pregnant women , she choose to be homeless , rebelling against society-There are people who DO NOT choose, expained in my last e mail. There is a group of young kids I believe they call themselves the rainbow tribe, and YES they choose to live on the streets.

avatar cabldawg71

Yes Rainbows but they are not only young kids.
Many go back to the 60s and 70s.
A group camps close to our town every year. They are not homeless and have cars and stuff to get around.
anyway I am sure a homeless pregnant girl would not be by choice.
But then I am not her so everything is speculation.

author says:

I have met these young adults in Key West and Asheville,N.C.. They do choose to live on the streets.

Go talk to the directors of homeless shelters and ask them what they think. Or go ask a homeless person if they would like a job and a home and see what they say or see how long they last. MOST (not all) people DO choose to be homeless. I've dealt with a few they were on the streets asking to work for money. After telling them about shelters and food banks, they told me it takes up too much time!!!

As far as the pictures goes, I don't think this picture is very clear, is it a scan of a photo or a low megapixel camera? The shot itself (framing, angle etc.) is very nice.

author says:

NO, let me make this clear for the THIRD time- The pregnant homeless girl in my photo- knew there is help out there-she DID choose to live on the streets. All of us have a free will, some people just give up,or they are consumed with a drug problem so much so that, spending all there money on drugs leads to homelessness. BELIEVE me I am NOT at all saying, people CHOOSE to be homeless, this woman has.
I personally understand what it is like to be homeless. I lost my home in a fire. I have nothing but heartfelt sympathy for people that are homeless NOT by choice.
As for the "not very clear" This photo was shot with a 35 mm film camera

avatar kyricom
kyricom says:

Author, I'm glad you made yourself more clear, and I accept your explanation for this particular photo. GL on it. BUT... some of the opinions expressed here are nothing short of unbelievable!!! Yes, there are a few who "choose" to be homeless, but applying that to even a significant portion of them is nothing short of ridiculous. 12.5% of the US population lives in poverty and it's only getting worse. 7 million more are facing foreclosure, which would leave at least some of them adding to the ranks (not because they "chose" to). The gap between the rich and the poor is also increasing in this country, with minimum wage having only 75% of the purchasing power it had in 1979. 17% of the people in homeless shelters are employed FULL time! 50% of the mayors surveyed by the US Conference for Mayors cited Domestic Abuse as a main reason for homelessness among women and children. Approximately 16% of the homeless are mentally ill - because Reagan cut federal funding and basically emptied the asylums. It is absolutely LUDICROUS to assert any large proportion of homeless people WANT to be homeless.

avatar cabldawg71

If indeed this girl is a Rainbow then she is part of a counter culture that has existed for years.
Then this would be rebellion to me as rainbows are rebels and some are Deadheads (a group of folks that followed the greatfull dead band around the world.)
Good luck Author

Alan2641 says:

rebellion or not this is a very nice image -- the expression the focus and framing are all very nice

author says:

Thank you Allan!

avatar adeincyprus

the strange thing is, she might well belong to a 'culture' like the rainbows, but she is still begging for money from the 'normal' society............a little hypocritical don't you think!

Very pretty, but a little too centered

avatar jadedink
jadedink says:

with kyricom on that...something else... did you try taking a shot from..a slightly different angle? perhaps instead of focusing on the face of the flower itself, angle to the side, so you get a little more of the body of the bud...and then off center the picture a bit so that you take in account some basic rule of thirds. helps to set off a shot.
i do love how the leaves of this rose plant are multi colored as well. adds to the "tropic" part of your title. beautiful rose
