Nice photo, but the highlights are really blown.

author says:

Any advice on how to stop this or how to fix it would be greatly appreciate. still learning and its great to have some professionals help

Adjusting the white balance when you take the photo can help prevent *sometimes*, but after the fact, using a photo editor and adjusting the whites of the image by lowering their contrast will improve it. If you don't have Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro or Elements or some other application, there are several FREE ONLINE photo editors like http:www/splashup.com or http:www/pixlr.com that you can use without having to install them on your computer. You may have to select the areas you want to adjust with a lasso tool or "magic wand," and then lower the saturation or darken it.

author says:

Thank you MossyB. will try your suggestions. great having advice from people that have more understanding than I do.

It's really hard to avoid in scenes like this, I imagine the best way would to do an HDR.

author says:

Thank you friiskiwi. might go try it tonight

Shooting in RAW and then adjusting (developing) the image yourself is the best option if the camera has the capabilities and you have a RAW editing program.

author says:

Thank you Solkee. I am loving all this information. I will try that out too.

This is a fountain I took a picture of at night outside of the Navy Pier. (5 years and 2981 days ago)

The photo leans down a bit to the right,
which looks somewhat odd, even at night...

Beautiful focus, from the foreground all the way to the furthest light, it is very crisp and beautiful. Well done!

Looks great, but you really need to tick 'High Resolution' if you want a high score. Can't really tell the quality in this size.
