They are armyworms, and no way would have even tryed to get closer...lol

Aren't these also known as Gypsy-moth caterpillars? Because of the nasty nests they spin and they just seem to post up camp anywhere? These things will ravish a tree in no time.

we have those around here. We call them armyworms too. I hate them. They can denude a hillside in no time flat. They couldn't hurt you though. They're just caterpillars

IMO, it would have made for a much more interesting photo if you took it from a different angle, rather than just strait down. The photo just lacks depth at this angle but once again.. just IMO....
