If you focused more in on the rail guard, then it would be more on theme. Right now, it's the opposite of the contest.

I checked out the samples you offered and I understand better now but, alas, I have already put this one in and don't have a replacement. I wonder if cropping it close around the signal so the train is the only background would help? I will give it a shot to at least get this one out of the contest as it doesn't fit the description.

Okay, I cropped it closer. I hope it is at least fitting the theme now. I guess this will be one of those "learning experiences"! I really thank Jawshoewah for explaining this. I just wish someone would have said something soomer so I could fix it before I had 191 votes that are no doubt very poor for being off theme

Nice shot, not what I would call a landscape, but I'm sure it's within the guidelines.

Personally, when this contest came up, I was thinking that a solid contrast in colors would really be the best entries. This one fit the broad contrast better. Not all scenery looks good in B&W.

true...not all scenery looks good in black and white, but that doesn't mean enter a nice looking black and white whether it fits the theme or not.....
But hey! I guess you can see landscape way way out in the distance :O
