nice ideea!
HDR is not at all flattering this photo
the dirt on the floor really bothers me for some reason
Well this whole contest bothers me a lot, (thank god you can accept the fact that this person will probably live a short life filled with medical problems that will shoot the moon, the floor is the LEAST of his problems (and there really isn't anything flattering about the Divine Comedy (google search Dante's Inferno Gluttony)
If I read this image correctly, this man could suffering from diabetes also in advanced stages. Good luck Author.
I entered a picture once that fit the theme well, but looking back, the picture was gross. It was of a dog in a bad situation and in the background there was poop ALL over the place. That dog poop really gave you a sense of the bad situation the dog was in....which was perfect for the theme, but because the poop was so gross, it was a bad picture and you'd never see it used on a commercial or an ad or anywhere really. So my point is, the dirty floor does nothing for the picture.
That is a very narrow way of looking at things.
I guess you've never had to make an album cover for a grunge band.
Or reviewed the Movie "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover... (the first 15 Minutes are very difficult, (it has dog crap in it) and when The Thief makes the lover eat the French Revolution with the back of a wooden spoon page by page it makes a powerful point in the story. (it's his henchman that does it, but it was his proclamation of revenge.)
Or seen the Photos of Maplethorpe's Leather/Whip images,
Or Beuys’ Action, “How to explain pictures to a dead hare,†when he encased himself in a box filled with pictures with windows so people could watch him (face coated in honey) dripping on top of a dead bunny as he explained the photos attached to the walls.
Or experienced the Dada movement, Duchamp’s urinal a prime example.
This would make a great commercial for fighting diabetes, it would get people thinking, and would be perfectly appropriate for the underground magazine network.
Not everything is out of Better Homes in Gardens (life doesn't work that way, dirty floors exist) and the 50's weren't the beautiful imagery we see, it was an awful time for women and African Americans. But when we look at the photography of that time (not all of course) but the majority reflected a world that didn't exist.
I'm sorry this picture "bothers" you, but I really do think I hit the mark and your criticism is accepted but disagreed with on all levels.
powerful stuff author!! well done!
you have a few points there author
