I think a better focus on the salt grains up front would be better than the back. Right now most of the image is out of focus. I'll hold my vote.

How is Salt a bad omen?

i don't really know friis ... its written in the contest goal ...

I think that salt is not a bad omen... passing a salt shaker straight from one's hand to someone else's hand is. You are supposed to put the salt shaker down on the table before the other person takes it... but in order to cancel out the bad omen, you are supposed to toss some salt over your left shoulder using your right hand... lol... but, DO NOT ASK ME WHY!lol

Well I for one find the symbolism to be obvious, it's spilt salt, In Leonardo DaVinci's famous painting, "The Last Supper," Judas Escariot has just spilled a bowl of salt - a portent of evil and bad luck. To this day, the tradition endures that someone who spills salt should throw a pinch over his left shoulder to ward off any devils that may be lurking behind. Although I do agree with the comment about sharpness and I think that it would also do better with less noise. Excellent idea though!

That's correct. Spilling salt is considered bad luck. I would suggest adding a link to your description like this one:

It's on theme but still not a very good focus. Author, jsut a suggestion. I don't really know how you photograph or what kind of camera you use but in most macro shots, you are going to probably have to shoot several shots before you really find the one you want. TAKE TOO MANY! Always do this and you will get better results.

that's what i do joshua ... its my camera which isn't very good

SPILLING SALT

If you fall victim to this dilemma, simply take a pinch of salt and toss it over your left shoulder, "right into the Devil's face."

Origin. Salt was once a rare and costly commodity. As such, it was economic waste to spill any. Also, salt is a purifier, a preservative, and it symbolizes the good and lasting qualities of life. It was mixed into the foods used in the religious ceremonies of both the Greeks and Romans. One source of this superstition is Leonardo da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper--the betrayer Judas has accidentally spilled salt onto the table.

different, but you may want to correct the white balance, it looks very yellow.

author says:

Yeah the yellow is actually due to the yellow lamp illuminating from the right Thought it'd give it a different look and feel

avatar adeincyprus

you are right, it does give it a different look, but it doesn't look right....imo.
