wow! when I first started looking at the top of this photo, I thought it wasn't going to be that great, but as my eye went down, it just flowed nicely and then bam, there's that guy sitting there. I really like how this photo just flows and keeps your eye moving. Is it a scanned photo? If so, I would try to clean up some of the scratches and dots in it.......hmmm maybe on the other hand that noise is what "makes" the picture though.

I get what you've attempted to portray but it just comes across as too staged for me sorry.

Why do you feel it's staged? And even if it was, why is that a bad thing? It’s not. This was a shot I took a couple years ago and I just though it fit the theme perfectly; a few friends camping out in the dessert, making breakfast and just hanging out.

How does it convey solitude if there are three people?

There are two definitions for solitude. sol·i·tude (sl-td, -tyd) n. 1. The state or quality of being alone or remote from others. 2. A lonely or secluded place.
