I agree; while this is a nice looking photo it doesn't really say "struggle" to me (although I know how hard it can be to blow into one of those things). Maybe you should look through your captures and see if you have a picture of one of the kids trying really hard to blow into their instrument. All the best!

is this a drop on a soild surface?

Yes... I have two pieces of glass that are painted on the back... one white and one black. I figure out where the drop will land and then place a small amount of milk (in this case) at that spot. I focus on the closer side of the milk and let it happen. Settings: 2 flashes bouncing off white board set at 1/32, f20 or so, 1/100 speed. 100mm L macro lens.
