Cool shot. The rest of his body blurred in the background really helps it. (Hard to tell from this angle, but it just looks like a Garter Snake - they couldn't hurt you if they wanted to)

I think you're right...probably a garter. However, in the back of my mind I'm never sure. We have pigmy rattlers here as well. It does have some pretty cool DOF for both grass and snake.
