It was my understanding that any font could be used and that is all there is. I'm sorry if I misunderstood the contest, but that was my understanding. Type doesn't have to be letters, dings and specialty fonts could be used as well. I'll remove it if the moderators think it should be.
I think it should be ok, and I really like this image. Some of the light and shadow conflict a bit though. Having uniform drop shadows on all of them doesnt fit and create enough depth, and the middle box has a highlight on the edge even though it behind the other boxes. Fix up these little details and it'll be great!
Seems like the font choices are okay, but some of the perspective needs work...

I appreciate your helpful comments and will see what I can accomplish. Is the highlight you were talking about the gradient that was used on that square? On the sbs you will see the square and the gradient that was used on it, was that what you were referring to? I am interested in doing my best where it can be done.
a party for my friend. i saw this contest and thought, why not make a spec flyer for the contest and get some input on it? no external sources. (5 years and 3690 days ago)
Very interesting yet simple idea. Sometimes simpler is the best way to go. I might have added shadows, but that is a personal preference. Nice Job. Good Luck!!

You know there is a cartoon character almost identical to one on a public television program called "word world" and may be considered copy-righted.
What's the vertical line at right of "hills"? Are the clouds created from a font?
author says:
umm the vertical line is what you see when typing.. it was done by stroking a pen tool path.. i could have typed "l" and made it really thin but it's just a small detail. there are no clouds in the image, just sky. if that causes doubts with the moderators, i'll change it but i like it the way it is.
