Funny creature . Apart from above comments, I'd recommend to use the texture of the source image to fill the creature's body/head and the leaf. If you do so, then try not to overstretch the texture (thought that's personal, I like it if the texture is still recognizable). Good luck!

This is quite lovely! the only thing that bugs me is the light rays...It could actually do without them, or w/ a different layer mode, they seem the wrong color and slightly distracting.
