Edgar Mueller is the world's best pavement artist. He makes 2D art on the pavement in such a way that it looks 3D from certain angles. This can give you the illusion that you can fall through the earth.
Take a look at this website: http://www.metanamorph.com/. In this contest, your goal is to use a graphics program to manipulate an image of a street and give it a 3D illusion, similar to the ones that Mr. Mueller creates.
Good luck!

downoffthedragon: I can't wait to see what people come up with! ( 5 years and 3499 days ago )
Geexman: an amazing artist! Another good street artist is Julian Beever, check out his "batman & robin"! heres a link to his pics too, be inspired!!! http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm ( 5 years and 3499 days ago )
pearlie: Julian Beever is the artist whose work I have seen - simply amazing trompe l'oeil. ( 5 years and 3499 days ago )
langstrum: What he did is a thousand time more difficult than what we're going to do in this contest because we've already had the perspective on the street photo, but he doesn't. Very good suggestion! ( 5 years and 3499 days ago )
hereisanoop: interesting........ ( 5 years and 3499 days ago )
artgirl1935: Another challenging contest. Sorry, downoffthedragon, that you can't do your own contest, but thanks for the great idea! ( 5 years and 3498 days ago )

erikuri: Link above doesn't work... :o ( 5 years and 3497 days ago )
downoffthedragon: I LOVE the entries so far! This has been a truely successull contest so far! ( 5 years and 3495 days ago )
Geexman: Great entries but I was under the impression that the main source should be a street and the image on the street should be resemble a chalk drawing rather than a photograph (making it a regular old chop and blend), does anyone have an opinion on how rigid the rules are or should be for this? ( 5 years and 3494 days ago )
downoffthedragon: Geexman: The image on the street looking like a chalk drawing is a plus. But cutting and pasting a picture on the street does not work. The perspective (at least that of the viewer of the photograph, not necessarily that of the person on the actual street) should be considered. Simply blending the image into the street isn't enough. Edgar Mueller images seem to jump out of the street without forgetting that it is on a street. So that the edges of the image might appear to have been cut from the asphalt. Sure, there is a fine line between a "regular old chop and blend" and something that someone put a lot of thought and work into. But that's how it is for anything on this site or in life for that matter. It's not really a matter of rules but rather personal taste and what you consider to be good work. So, vote how you feel, and/or submit your best work understanding the contest the best way you know how. And good luck! ( 5 years and 3493 days ago )

Great job author, one of the best in the contest.Just few minor observation, boy shadow is a bit blured, but if u look to other shadows u will see how they are sharp defined.Second thing are white stripes over the tunnel hole.IMHO it would be better and more realistic if u remove them.At any case high votes from me and best of luck.
best entry so far!! great job author!! about the sign on the right... while it does distract slightly from the image it is not a problem for the picture... however you could easily crop it out which would really direct focus to the waterfall! GOOD LUCK!
the shadow cast makes this perfect.. because the shadow doesn't follow the dip in the falls.. this creates the illusion that the image on the ground is actually flat (the realism is excellent...though I do have the same question about the chalk look.. but Mueller's work often looks very real great JOB!!!!
Like Drivenslush says, Mueller's art is often very realistic. I was more concerned with perspective than whether it was realistic or chalk like. I love the shaddow! It really makes the image!
Very nice but a bit tricky...perspective does seem a little strange. I think this picture would make more sense if it was drawn on a hill. On flat land, it looks somewhat too real.
This is always my nightmare...... very good job... (I think, removing the brown color over the rod and broken edges (near the yellow devider mark) will clarify the depth. Its only my opinion).... GL
hehehe.. at first I was like.. Hey.. this looks like it just drawn on the road.. and then I realized.. THAT's THE WHOLE POINT..hehehe.. great job author
Nice one! Love the snake lol. My only reccomendation would be to fix the right edge of the chasm a bit--make it crisper and sharper. As a chalk drawing, the edge shouldn't look too feathered.
well the edge would look feathered if the artist sat in a bucket of water and scooted their wet rump a long the edge,,, (good job author.. I personally have no clue how to start this contest) I've been searching through all my photos and I haven't a clue..hehehe.... GOOD LUCK!!!
The edge between the pavement and the chasm doesn't seem real -- and realism is obviously the whole point. Once it's truly realistic, a car driving over it would show that it's actually fake. Also, I don't get the climber's lost hand [I know that's the way he is in your source, but I'm trying to make sense of it here]. I think the snake could be a lot bigger (hard to tell what it is) and more colorful.
author says:
gamemastertips, Drivenslush and DanLundberg. I have removed climber, painted road line and increase the size of snake. Added walking women
to me this would feel more realistic if the center lines form the road were not there... granted sometimes the artist mimicked in this contest would leave portions of the road in for effect, but this does not feel like that is the case here... remove the center lines and i would totally believe it! GL!
author says:
Thanks bjaockx , I have removed road lines and also have made some other minor changes.
Good good quite improved, author. Just one thing--by having the snake cross the edge of the hole, the snake would be a real-life one(which would be impossible if it were a chalk drawing). Not completely sure about this, though....thoughts? I may not know the full potential of these drawings lol.
Although the fix hasnt altered the overall look, IMO it could have stayed as it was, the extruding part of the snakes head would have simply been drawn on the right hand side of the road (avoiding overlapping the grass of course). Altering the perspective of a normally flat drawing and making things jump out from the ground is what makes these types of artists unique. Nice Entry btw
Very realistic pavement painting! The boy's shadow needs to be a bit darker (notice cars shadows).
Thanks erikuri, increased opacity of shadow
Liking this a lot!
