This contest is both a technical and creative excercise; your goal is to find a source (can be object, human or animal) and reflect it in water. Your source this may not be in the water allready. Another requirement is that your subject in the final image needs to be partly in the water. A good reflection isn't just flipping the source and giving it ripple effect, there's more to it.
The angle of the source object in the water is slightly different, which means you look under the object as well. Be careful at how you place your source in the water, because a 3D shape in water needs to have a 3D cuttingline where it hits the water as well. Furthermore water is transparant so you'll have to make sure we can still see that part of the object which is underwater. One more restriction in this contest is that you are not allowed to use any kind of filter to produce the ripple effect of the reflection.
Have fun and hopefully you'll learn some new tricks.
A Step by step is MANDATORY in this contest, showing how you have made your reflection.

Toothpick134: ohh man.. I thought I was gonna use liquify, but you're not allowed.. ohh wel.. ( 5 years and 3490 days ago )
Lamantine: wow, this will be difficult ( 5 years and 3490 days ago )
Lamantine: wow, this will be difficult ( 5 years and 3490 days ago )
Chalty669: This is really hard! It might be because I chose a hard source to work with, but I can't wait to see entries on this one. I'll post mine if I end up liking it. ( 5 years and 3489 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The filters that are not to be used are the 'wave' 'ocean ripple' 'glass' filters and so on which can simulate a watery effect, displacement maps and the liquify tool are ok. Please remember that an sbs is MANDATORY for this contest. ( 5 years and 3489 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Entries submitted after Friday, 20:00 GMT will be removed ( 5 years and 3482 days ago )

Creative idea. Shouldn't the undersides of the tray and vases on the glass-topped foreground coffee table also be reflected in the water? Also, reflections are the same size as what they're reflecting. The desk-lamp and TV reflections shouldn't squish and the floor-lamp reflection should be more than 18 inches high, for example. [Put stuff on a mirror to see how reflections work.] BTW a dark floor is really needed to get a reflection.
Killer idea and superb execution, It really would look good with just a hint of a ripple in the water and a definite water mark on the furniture. Nice picture BTW
Amazing job author....very very well done...best of luck

Thanks everyone for the comments! This was a last minute decision to do. I didn't have as much time with it as I would've liked. I had to go to bed and now I have to go to work. Looks like I won't be able to edit this one before the contest deadline.

yeah shame you didn't have time. I think objects floating would have made it more realistic.
the reflection of the underside of the bench could use some improvement. If you take the perspective in account the dark part of that part of the reflection might be twice that broad. There's also 2 little white spots beside the darkside of the umbralla you might want to remove... Looks like I'm whining but I really like this image

Thank you Robvdn, excellent advice.. i've updated the image once again
there might be some ripples in the water where her feet are, but I really like this, good work on the underside of the bench. nice mood with the monochrome.
Nice work.. very believable reflection.. i suggest bumping up the contrast on the bear and its reflection so that it matches its surroundings, but great job!

Thanks for commenting ponti But I think the bears contrast is fine the way it is.
Quite nice. However, I kind of feel that if the bear disappeared but its waterline remained, that waterline would seem to be on a different plane than the concentric waves emanating outward from the bear. [BTW I think the Matthew Stewart background pic you found would be a great addition to anybody's files as an example of how reflections work.]
Beautiful work, author. I like the way you captured the sun's light on the bear to match the trees also. Good job on the bear's reflection - you even got the underside of its jaw, which seems to be missing on other's work. Adding the moon is a nice final touch.
It s one great job !!! Congratulations,,,,, but I think it is not completely agree with the contest.... see:

Thanks for your comment dyno, but as you can see the pillow, grapes and flower are all in the water. I would hope that counts as my subject matter but I guess I`ll raise the question since you`ve pointed it out.
Nice reflection, but the perfectly straight waterline looks fake. Having the water level come up to her arm would allow you to draw a 3D waterline while also resolving the "partly in the water" issue clearly in your favor.
cute kid, nice results, not sure if you had used an authorized filter though.

Thanks guys, I could see the guides for this one are strict & maybe unclear, so I flagged the entry earlier and the mods wrote:
About your entry: - Reflecting Innocence -:
Yes, your entry is within the guidelines of the theme.
I was wondering if anyone else would think that the pillow would - in the real world - be showing some water and or water stains. If you can accomplish that, would be more realistic. Very sweet little girl you've got there, author.
Oh, author, she's so cute... a princess! You just could made a darker line on the pillow, as if it was absorbing water... try it next opportunity! GL, my friend...
Thanks for noticing CMYK46. At the moment this is the best I can do. The only way to get it right is to completely paint the head from a perspective looking up. My painting skills aren't that good yet.
you could just remove the reflection of the head author, you've put it far to high up in the reflection, it should be somewhere covered with the leaves. Where the head is now a reflection of the body and maybe some of the hair should be on place. For the rest: great job
This looks amazing. I'd love to see a full tutorial on this one. Looks like a lot of work but the end result is great!
Beautiful work, love the detail
