After a long journey into time and space; in the early morning with a barely shining moon the discoverer returns home, while the fogs slowly disapears. (5 years and 3285 days ago)
Too dark and not enough contrast. It's hard to make out the background, or the top of the creature.

MossyB, this depends on your screen settings and the screen you are using.
I have viewed the image with 3 different screens i can see pretty much everything.
(remmeber the background is further away and its dark soo that is supposed be darker than the foreground)
For the contrast. Where would you like more contrast?
In the dark there is not much contrast, in the image it is early in the morning and it is still dark. ( you can read my description to know more. )
If you can i would like you to see it on another monitor.
And let me know if it looks different.
Any other people having the same issue/problem, please respond or check screen settings.
A little dark on my netbook (not a great monitor but tried it just to see) .... it is better on my big monitor. Great image and wonderful story happening here!

You could add a rusty pipe that exits the image, so that the water looks like comming from somewhere.
Those water drops should be transparent if you care for realism.
author says:
@greymval: thanks for the suggestion, but it's pure surrealism...
Surrealism is about depicting unreal images in a Realistic manner ( they were even joking about how realistic can they get: see Magritte: this is not a pipe.)
Your entry is closer to Collage Art, which is pretty cool, but needs some adjusments as well - pasted paper on a background would have some frame edges, dropping shadows, etc.
author says:
Ok, so let's consider it a fantasy, because you won't see any giant tap floating in the air dripping blue waterdrops.
