The forehead and the sides by the eye all show anatomical structures that do not support a single eye. The wrinkles and the stripes show a definite "two eye" structure.
- try to completely disappear the holes for the original eyes. In order to make the sense that the skull is flat there.
- it would be better if you move the new eye a bit lower
A Hue and Saturation adjustment, desaturating the Blues, while slightly increasing the saturation of the cyans would help the elephant look more "normal," without washing out the sky.

Try to match up the paint streaks on the cheeks...it's painfully obvious they don't match up in the hi-res. Looks good otherwise.
