Great start for this contest, author! I really like the simplicity and the surreal feel And what I really like, is that you posted the link for the inspirational tutorial! Some people don't dare to do that, because they think they might look bad then, but that's not true. You made your own image out of it, just using the basic idea and like I said, you did a great job!

What is the shadow reflecting off of?

I wanted to make the land look as if it were floating, so I added the shadow. I think it also gives it more of a surreal feel. Thanks for the suggestions oziipop, I will mess around with the image tomorrow.

The light on the tree is from the right, the shadow of the land is directly below as if the light were from above. (Oh, and the light on the clouds is from the upper left...it pays to consider these things).

Nice colors, good research ! Question about the waterfall: you made the offspring of it from the opposite angle of how the angle of the side of the 8 is. That's done on purpose (surreal aspect) or do I see it wrongly? Good luck!

nice one -- only a small thing is the edge of the 8 ball seems a bit sharp in the area of the girls legs -- maybe a bit of blur (IMHO).

Changed the pool cue as I couldn't obtain permission for the source used, instead just photographed my old cue which was in my cupboard. Also blurred the edge of the eight ball as per Alan's suggestion.
