Two ways to go here: Create an interesting abstract image using only photoshop tools, or make a CBR (chopped beyond recognition) image from a photo. In the latter case the source photo should not be recognizable in the final image. Have fun!
George55: Do PS tools include Gradients - Filters - Layer Blending Modes? How about Smudging, Burning and Dodging? Or just shapes filled with color? ( 5 years and 2337 days ago )
CMYK46: All PS tools are allowed as long as the resulting image is abstract.

Howdie stranger! If you want to participate in this contest, just:
There were so many layers the SBS would have been about 50 steps, and believe me, nobody cares that much. You can get the general idea. I could have gone into how I added noise to shapes, used brushes with wet edges, or scatter brushes blurred, etc... but Kandinsky just painted. He didn't need to explain how. (Oh, and at the end I added a touch of film grain).
There's no source for the figure in the boat. In any case an abstract image should include no representational images. There is now a definition of "abstract" in the contest description., which is deliberately titled TOTALLY abstract.
author says:
it was hand drawn, that's why there is no source. if you wish i could remove it?

Very cool entry, rather weak (unedifying) SBS.
