You might want to try to really restore the photo itself, pasting the parts together is just 1 part of the restoration challenge.
Maybe you and I have a different idea of what 'restore' means. I didn't just put it back together. And the point of restoring someones damaged family photos is to make them look better without making them look fake. I tried my best to fix the parts of people's faces that were missing because of the tears and creases, but I don't want them to look fake and painted.
Please don't take this the wrong way author, you are off to a fine start, but it's a long way before one can call it restored. Keep going at it, don't stop there.
Oh I know, it isn't up to a professional standard or even a very 'good' standard, but I just wanted to try it. I usually edit images together, I don't draw or paint. So I felt I took it as far as I could personally without harming what was left of those original people's faces.
I just feel it's in bad form for a MOD to come in and copy and paste the same dismissive comment into each entry. I've never seen a MOD do that before, they have always been very helpful in the past and even give advice if I don't know how to do something.
Sorry if you feel my comment is dismissive, it wasn't meant that way (English is not my first language). What you did in putting the parts together you did good but IMHO opinion that is just part 1 of the restoration. There's cracks in it as well, dust spots, scratches, color differences and so on. There's where another part of this challenge lies.
Was hoping to motivate you to attack those challenges also, again sorry if it sounded offensive.
If you feel like you want to keep going on it, the PS spot healing brush tool can help a lot in this case, slow but steady.
Thank you. There is so much going on in this photo as far as spots and little things, it's hard to tell if something is texture of the wall or clothing for example, or if it is spots and discoloration from age. There are also some strange red lines, I suppose from sun damage. I'm just going very slowly and undo button is my best friend right now.
I am also working on this restoration, have a couple of hours in it so far, it's long and tedious work, two weeks to go, so that seems like plenty of time, hope it's worth it, if nothing else but for the practice, ...and patience.
When it's over maybe we can compare notes on techniques used, if you'd like.
Sounds great. We can continue talking here or when the contest is done you can send me a message.
robvdn, There isn't a reply button for the comment you just left so I hope you see this here. I'm sorry if I came off as rude, that was not my intention. I posted what I did, and usually people comment 'try this' or 'try that'. So I was just frustrated.
I am actually still working on this and want to keep trying to fix all of the things that you mentioned above. I am just not sure that I can complete everything that needs to be done in the time frame of this contest, because I've never worked on a restoration that needed so much done.
If I can get it finished in time I may add it to the contest, but I am using it as a learning experience so even if I can't finish before the time runs out it's something I still want to do.
