Cool idea, I think it would look even cooler if you worked the base of those "ring worms" some. Maybe some shadow/grounding work; or make it look like they were coming out of the ground texture.

The edges of that hole are kinda sharp.

Some motion blur might help.

You can't, but you have plenty of time to revise it and resubmit. Just make sure to read the guidelines and find useable sources.
