As for your image, it's a nice idea, but try to fade the shadows a bit as they distance themselves from the scarecrows, at the moment they don;t look too realistic. (Maybe try blurring it a bit more and lowering the opacity)

Great idea and has a nice composition, keep an eye on your edges especially the young lady in the background the white outline is a little distracting, plus you may want to see if you can sharpen up the foreground scare crow as the D.O.F. is a bit out of sync sharp cross, blurry scare crow and then the most distant scare crow looks the most in focus........
The foreground scarecrow would be much bigger, and with that sky I doubt there would be distinct shadows. On second look, are those supposed to be her footprints? They look more like blast craters.
